Controlling Grass flies

Flies (Brachycera) belong to the order of the bipeds. About 120 families of different types of flies belong to this order. The housefly is perhaps best known and almost everything about a fly is very unsanitary, even the way they reproduce. Surfaces are therefore quickly affected by these animals and bacteria are spread very quickly. Also, landing on food or drinks often only takes a few milliseconds, so we don’t always notice that a fly has been on it. This is not something that can really be avoided, however a real plague can be! We will remove the grass flies.

We have created a summarized article for you. See below for all information about this pest!

    The Grass fly issue

Flies have a health risk to you and everyone around you. In addition, the hum of this flying insect is very annoying and it can also easily spread all kinds of diseases.

Salmonella, cholera, parasitic worms and tuberculosis are examples of diseases that can be spread by flies. There are species that bite humans and animals and that is why it is sometimes also nice for your (pets) animals to tackle the nuisance, if it can no longer be properly controlled by yourself.

A fly infestation can develop in no time, because it only takes a few days for the fly egg to grow into an adult. In addition, females lay between 400-600 eggs during their entire life.

The Grass fly: born in green

The grass fly is yellow with three shiny black stripes on the top of its chest. This is an almost hairless fly with a length of 3 mm. Unlike other insects, egg-to-adult development does not take place indoors. Larvae live in uncut and often neglected grassland (hence the name grass fly) with many composites. They also feed on lice found in galls in plants. During the winter, grass flies reside in large swarms in sheltered places against or in the cavity walls of buildings. They can also sometimes enter buildings or houses through roof tiles.

Grass flies are not harmful, but their large swarms can be very annoying to humans and animals.

How do Grass flies get into your living environment?

Fly infestations are often in the attic, as this is a place where they can develop quietly without being disturbed. Most attics are also easily accessible through cracks and holes or through the roof tiles. Flies can hibernate here in peace, especially when there is a dead mouse or rat that they can feed on. Furthermore, flies can of course easily enter through windows or doors, unless you have taken good precautions, such as installing insect screens.

Do it yourself or outsource it?

There are many DIY products that can go a long way. Installing insect screens is also a good idea. If you cannot resolve it, because the swarms are too large or the problem occurs in your stable or poultry house, we advise you to contact us. We can help you with long-term and effective repel and control.

Protect Pest Control is competent and masters all techniques optimally, so that when controlling them, we also take into account the lifestyle of each type of fly and your personal situation. We always provide a fast, professional and sustainable solution to your fly problem.

    Repel and prevent Grass flies

Grass flies are removed by performing a seams and crevices treatment. This means that as many seams and cracks as possible are injected with a liquid, namely a suitable pesticide.

There is also the option of nebulizing or treating resting places. The pesticide used has a residual effect of more than 5 weeks, causing flies that come into contact with the liquid later on also to be affected. For preventative measures, we can always provide you with effective tailor-made advice.

    Enable Protect Pest Control

Protect Pest Control can remove the Grass fly infestation in a very reliable way and help you with the prevention for the future. Leaving a fly infestation untreated is strongly discouraged, because the fly infestation can easily get out of control and the risks of transmitting diseases or bites can then no longer be prevented.

Protect Pest Control is a professional pest controller and uses safe and successful ways to control a fly infestation.
